On Wednesday, I decided to go for a bike ride (after a month of not riding). I drove out to the Granite Town Rail Trail and got on my bike. I started to pedal, but it wouldn’t pedal. I tried shifting gears, and my chain fell off. I had no tools with me, so I went home. We fixed the chain and saw that my front derailleur wouldn’t shift into the second gear. I usually kept it only in the 1st gear, so I decided not to do anything about it.
The next day, I went back out to the Granite Town Rail Trail and was able to ride my usual route. For my back gear, I usually set it to 7; however, the pedal was spinning too easily, so I switched to 8th (the highest I have on the back gears). It still felt too easy, and I would need to switch up a gear, which would mean switching my front gear into 2nd, and I knew if I did that, my chain would probably fall off. So I didn’t. I had to work harder to ride (since I had to pedal more).
I probably needed the higher gear because my legs are getting stronger. I also found that my cardio was rather weak, and my heart rate jumped into the 180s for most of the ride. I tried to lower my heart rate by concentrating on breathing, and that would bring it down to the 170s.

While I was putting my bike into my car after the ride, it leaked fluid from the fork. It needs a full servicing, but it will cost about $500+ to do that. The bike isn’t even worth that much. We are going to take it in next week to get an estimate. I hope it isn’t too much, as right now money is very tight.
